Oct 2 Update -

   The Day
A pretty standard nothing special at all day. Decided to start my grind a little bit later on in the day (3pm). The weather took a huge turn for the worse here in Vancouver; the beautiful summer sunshine became cold damp rain for the past few days. I decided to treat myself to a Japanese Shiatsu Massage, have a nice steak, and purchase fresh new socks.

The Grind

Started the day off by losing flips all in pre-flop left right.

The whole day was more or less a disaster of running into the top of villain's range; situation set-ups and a little bit of spew.

Overall for the day I felt like it was more of a B-Game, where I neither incorporated a lot of thin value betting or bluffing spots. Going through a few of my hands this session I realized there were about 3-4 hands in which I heavily misplayed and could have easily saved 3-4 bi's worth of loss. These were mainly spots where "in the moment" the play felt right, but after thorough analysis it became quite obvious that the play was well less than optimal.

Despite the profits being not as great as yesterday nor being able to BOOM any 72s hand; I'm rather pleased with my emotional control and mental game as I had to call the grind day short due to some migraines kicking in as well as tilt.

A hand that is a partial spew and partial cooler.

  1. Hey danny. Playing as much as you play, how long does you downswing takes in average in days? I mean, playing so many hands in a day should decrease a lot the number of losing days.

Have you ever cosidered playing without looking at holdem manager results? I believe your results would be better because you would tilt less.

  2. You're absolutely right to both ! I try my best not to look at results during the session as that's when I always end up having my downswings.

As for average # of days . . I would say 2-3. Last month I had a 6-7 day downswing which was almost 100% attributed to bad play and can't really blame it on variance as such.

Since I'm putting in 10-15k hands a day. 2-3 days downswing; 3-4 days recovery equates to be about 50-100k hand break even stretch; which most certainly isn't unheard of =]

  3. :) i'm planning to play more tables next year. I currently play 4 tables of zoom 100SH. as I can see you are a better FR player than SH, Do you recommend any study material for FR?

Also, how often do you study poker? Do you subscript any poker school? how long have you been playing 100nl?

Thx and sorry for so many questions haha.

  4. Study material for FR? I usually just talk with a few people about the game, and play to learn to be honest. Study material wise; I've watched a few videos on DC here and there but currently don't have a subscription.

I study poker mainly by interacting with the community, post on forums. If you've got a few hands or what not you want to discuss you can post it here and I'll promptly respond =] ~

I've never subscribed to poker school or had any coaching. I've been playing 100 SH much longer than 100 FR however, I've always started out as SH.

As for a better FR player than SH, ~ I actually think I'm a pretty average/mediocre player for both. Tons of room for improvement.

What I can say is; that with SH it's much easier to spew and tilt whereas for FR this doesn't occur as often. The variance in FR is also less.

  5. Oh nice!! I saw ur graph from last month and u had a really good WR in FR, way better than in the SH, this was the reason i thought u should be better in FR.

Actually you're a very good player bro, its not easy to be up before RB playing so many tables/hands month.

I'm playing only 4 tables SH and i'm like 2bb/100 over 400k hands in Pokerstars (NL50/100). I played only 100k hands in NL100 SH zoom and i'm 2.2bb/100 on it.

Yes! I'll bring some hands for discussion soon. I'm only playing this month after day 9 cause i'm having exams in the university.

do you use skype? we could talk more about poker there, mine is SpeedGame2

cya and good luck on the tables
